Rules

To submit work to the Kootenay Literary Competition please review and follow the guidelines below. Entrants must live in the Kootenay areas of BC. Each entry must be original, unpublished, not submitted elsewhere for publication or broadcast, nor entered in any other contest or competition.

Entry fees must be received by e-transfer to the email address below or by cheque or money order made payable to Kootenay Writers Society. Cheques or money orders should be sent by regular post and must be received no later than the published submission deadline: December 31, 2017. 

In the body of the email please include: your name, address, phone number, the title of your entry, the Category you are entering and your age if entering the Youth Category:

YOUTH CATEGORY (Grade 9 – 12): Entry fee $10.00. Maximum word length 1500 words in any genre.

ADULT POETRY: Entry fee $20.00. Maximum 5 pages of poetry or one long poem no more than 5 pages.

ADULT FICTION OR PERSONAL NON-FICTION: Entry fee $20.00. Maximum 3,000 words.

NEWCOMERS CATEGORY: Entry fee $20.00. If you are new to Canada or if English is your second language you may enter fiction, poetry or personal non-fiction in this category. Maximum word count 1500 words.

INDIGENOUS WRITERS CATEGORY: Entry fee $20.00. If you are Indigenous (self identified) you may enter fiction, poetry or personal non-fiction in this category. Maximum word count 1500 words.

Entries should be typed, double spaced in proper contest format (no name or identifying marks on the submission itself). Include your name, address, phone number, and age for the Youth Category in the body of the email. Attach your submission as a Word document or PDF. Submit your entry fee and you’re done.
